It is impossible to miss the curia, it gets out from the row of the neighbouring houses with its massive triple arcade. In the past, it served as the first house „Župný dom“ of the chair of Liptov and many decisions which affected the orientation and life of Liptovský Mikuláš were pronounced here.
Since 1994, a permanent exposition named Chapters from the History of the town Liptovský Mikuláš has been available. The exposition leads visitors through the history of the town from 1826 when the town was founded, till the end of the World War II. There are many valuable exhibits exposed- for example a replica of Ondrašovecký treasure ( a complex of the bronze vessels, a statue of the St. Mikuláš, seals, tools of craftsmen, period photos and also a list of names and people deported from Liptovský Mikuláš during the World War II. The Museum also charts literary traditions of the Liptov region. The Museum itself bears the name of a particular poet of revolutionary romanticism Janko Kráľ who was born in Liptovský Mikuláš. A commemorative room situated in the Museum makes his life closer to us.
It is supposed that legendary rebel Juraj Jánošík was condemned to death in the building of today‘ s museum 17 March, 1713. What is more, he was hung on his left hip on a hook on a scaffold Šibeničky in Liptovský Mikuláš in the evening of that day. Today,The Torture Chamber of Liptovský Mikuláš which is located in the cellarage of the Museum reminds us all the moments of the cruel hearing before pronouncing the judgement. The Museum also arranges many short- term expositions regularly.
