Thanks to its location it is ideal for tourism and trips to the surrounding areas. Despite its small size it has a rich history .
First reference about Liptovsky Hradok, the smallest town of the Liptov region, is from 1341. Since then the town’s name underwent many changes. It’s first name was Ujwar (1341). Castrum hradek (1503), Hradek (1808), Hradok (1920) – are just a few of the names the town had in the past. Since 1927 it’s called Liptovsky Hradok. The town is located in a fold, surrounded by ledges of the Low Tatras, that gives it a hallmark of a touristicly attractive area, because from this town it is „just a jump“ to every other destination.
The use of natural resources has made this under-populated settlement a modern town with almost 8000 inhabitants. Thanks to establishment of the First school of forestry and building factories and the saw-mill Lipt. Hradok has gradually become an economic and cultural centre of the upper Liptov, center of the forestry, timber processing, etc.
Sport in this town has a long tradition too. In Slovakia and in the world the town got into the public awarness thanks to success in cross country skiing, cycling, but also volleyball and football have their tradition.
In the conclusion we must not forget to mention its historic monuments like the castle Hradok and its mansion, 200 years old Lime Tree Alley, organ in the Roman-Catholic church and the Arboretum, which must not be missed.
