History of Liptov

Liptov is rich for various history, and first reference goes to the old ages. Rich historical finds can be find in many museus, monumental houses, but also in historical parts of town, in churchs which breathe of history.

Liptov area was colonise in the old ages, what prooves neolitoval finds (6000 years ago). Main colonise dones from younger bronze period (1000 r. p.n.l)

The most valuables are bronze swords – liptovs type. Very important part of Liptov history create Celts. For the first time is Liptov mention in 1231 during the lordship of king Ondrej ll. Rich history documents also finds on castles Likavka and Liptovský Hrádok. Liptov area becomes part of Uherska in half of 12 century.

The independent župa begin in second half of 13. century. The place of župa move after the ending of old Liptovský kastle to Liptovská Mara and then to Partizánska Ľupča and from 1677 to Liptovský Mikuláš. In Liptov lived also famous slovak bandit Juraj Jánošík, he was catch in zdar 1713 in Valaskaá Dubová. On this place is now stylish restaurant Janošíks Koliba.

Part of historical development in Liptov is minergy. In 13 century in period of germans colonisation the minergy habitation begins in valley of river Boca, where was gold, silver, copper and iron digged. From minergy age in 19. century is „vaznica“ and bell-tower in Maša next Liptovský Hrádok. Besides mining history is Liptov region well known also for their bricklayers, it says that Budapest built liptov bricklayers.

Colection of traditional bricks houses you can see in Hybe and other bricklayers vilages. In past inhabitant of Liptov grep mainly cereals, potatos, cannabis and scopes laiter seep rearing.

In these days Liptov has more then 2000m2. Liptov economic and cultural centres are Liptovský Mikuláš, Liptovský Hrádok and Ružomberok. Almost 50% of Liptov are woods. There are many minerál sources mainly in Bešeňová, Likavka, Kvačany, Tiár, Pribylina, Závažná Poruba, Liptovský Ján. This region is well known also for healthly bads.
