However, in spite of all efforts, the workers of Malužiná never reachce a 100% pure copper. Out of 1,000 kg of crude copper 800-850 kg of refined copper was made. The refined copper in form of boards, blocks or cannon utensils was hauled to Liptovský Hrádok, and further by rafts on the Váh river to Žilina, carts to Ostrava and by railway to Vienna. In the refining and smelting processes about 20 workers were working. The main smelter was the best paid man (in mid-19 century it was about 6 guldens a day)while his hands earned just about a half of it. The ones who fell sick (a frequent case) had no other chice except for begging. In spite of it the smelting plant was providing sustenance to the locals until 1860 when the copper rrefinery was moved back to Smolník.
