It inspired the painters like P.Bohúň, P.Socháň, M.Benka, K.Plicka, J.Hála and even a married couple of English artists, the Stokes´. It was through the paintings of these artists that Važec became one of the most famous Slovak villages, a symbol of traditional rural life and culture. Especially the stokes´ and Jan Hála actually fell in love with the landscape and created some original paintings of the architecture and the people of Važec either in work or leisure, in hard and good times. Particularly valuable are the paintings of wooden houses, because after a fire in 1931 the majority of them burnt down and only a few examples remained. The picturesque beauty of Važec and its people fascinated the Czech painter Jan Hála so much that he stayed there permanently and found a new home in his beloved Važec.
