Walk through the city of Liptovský Mikuláš is interesting all the year. There are many historical monuments, art galleries and museums.
But much in order. Your walk around the city you can start at Square of Liberators. Church of St. Nicholas it is dominant of the square, and it is the oldest architectural monument of the city.
Close to the Square is the Centre of Koloman Sokol gallery and Museum of Janko Kral. The museum documented the history of the city since 1286 to present time. In the basement is an exhibition called Mikulášska Mučiareň – used to be a torture chamber, where used to makes the hearing of outlaw or national hero Juraj Janošík. West of the square – at the Hollého Street – is a jewish synagogue. Today, this monumental building can be admired only from outside, because the synagogue is close for unsatisfactory technical condition.
Then go back to Square of Liberators, and from there you continue along the street 1. Máj to the Liptovs Museum Čierny Orol, it is museum about history of hunting and fishing in Liptov from the Middle Ages. And only one street further is a Slovak Museum of Nature Protection and Speleology and it shows beauty of Slovakian living and inanimate nature.
And you also can make stop on Tranovského street. You will like the Lutheran church and art lovers will certainly not overlook Liptovs Gallery of Peter Michal Bohúň and House of Photography. Opposite the gallery is an old Lutheran parsonage, where was written the first political program of the Slovaks in 1848. These events are documented in exposure called – Tatrín a Žiadosti slovenského národa.
