Classification: Moderately difficult high-mountain tour with short and steep ascen to the ridge and descent from the ridge Elevation gain: 700 m
Map: Liptov-tourist map 1:100 000
Basic route: Start at the mountain village of Magurka (1 050 m) going up the valley of Ďurková on cart road marked in green (5609). You will be passing by the ski track with a lift on your right. About a kilometre beyond the last houses of the village turn off the road onto the path, which ascends in the steep slope of the mountain ridge of Javorina. The new route of the path avoids the head of the Ďurková valley threatened by snow avalanches in winter. The old path was damaged by disastrous avalanche in 1970. The new path leads to the grassy Mestská hora Mt.(1 529 m). Long and mild ascent from the Mestská hora will carry you to the main ridge of the Nízke Tatry Mts. Forest calamites, which destroyed the canopy, opened the view of the region of lower Liptov and the main ridge of the mountain range. Continue as far as the crossroads above the Sedlo Ďurková saddle (1 709 m). If you decide to have a rest and refreshment you can visit the restored shelter of Ďurková. Descending on greenmarked path to the opposite side of the ridge and then return back to the crossroads. Continue from the crossroads turning left and crossing the Sedlo Ďurková saddle you will easily ascend to the Ďurková Mt. (1 750 m), which is not far from there. The way to it is marked by red hiking marks (E8, 0801). Descend from the Ďurková by a short switchback to the lower section of the main ridge and continue slightly descending to the shallow saddle of Pod Zámostskou hoľou (1 591 m), where the ridge trail crosses with the path marked in yellow, which connects Magurka in the north with the Jasenianska dolina valley in the south. You, however, will have to continue further to the west and after passing the Zámostská hoľa Mt. (1 612 m) walking in slightly undulated section of the ridge you will get to the crossroads Pod Zámostskou hoľou (1 560 m). Once there, turn right onto the path marked in blue (2706). The route of descent leads along several old mining shafts and other remains of mining activity. The first stretch descends abruptly down the grassy slope with islands of dwarf pine forest as far as the upper timber line. The path obliquely traverses the slope divided by a series of steep valleys dropping down to the valley of Ďurková. After almost two hours of descent you will arrive at the Pri Bašovni crossrads where your route joins the yellow-marked path (8448) coming from the Zámostská hoľa Mt. The descent ends at the settlement of Magurka.
