The cave is situated in the district of Liptovský Mikuláš, in the cadastral territory of Liptovský Ján. The entrance is located on the northwestern slope of Smrekovica in the Low Tatras National Park at an altitude of 761 m, 39 m above the stream Štiavnica.

The cave is situated in the district of Liptovský Mikuláš, in the cadastral territory of Liptovský Ján. The entrance is located on the northwestern slope of Smrekovica in the Low Tatras National Park at an altitude of 761 m, 39 m above the stream Štiavnica.
*Stanišovská Cave *is the oldest known cave in Liptov and Slovakia. The entrance has been known for a long time. The first time was analyzed by J. Bucholtz in 1720, however first time was described by Matej Bel in 1723.
The cave was formed by erosion and corrosion activity of the underground stream Štiavnica, with the participation of water from atmospheric precipitation and collapses weatherworn material, the tectonic cracks some directions and interlayer areas in the Pleistocene and Holocene. General direction of the cave is north – south. The cave has a history of rich sinter decoration, which is now quite damaged, especially in the easily accessible parts.
In the cave are known two developmental levels. The bottom is about 25 m above the stream Štiavnica. The temperature in the cave is from 6.4 ° C to 7.0 ° C. Humidity reaches 95%. The lower level, which can be called also the lower floor, there is the longest hall in the cave. It is a horizontal corridor with an irregular profile where floor is covered with debris compesed of angular fragments derived from parent rock substrate. It consists Middle Triassic limestones of Gutenstein type. In other parts of this corridor are created flowstone cascades and pools.
